What Does Lammas Mean to You?

What Does Lammas Mean to You?

As the calendar turns toward August, the light begins to shift subtly, but unmistakably. The high heat of summer starts to soften, and the Wheel of the Year brings us to Lammas, also known as Lughnasadh (pronounced LOO-nah-sah).

This ancient Pagan and Celtic holiday marks the first harvest, a time to honor the grain, the sun, and the fruits of our labor. This celebration can be about more than crops, it can (and SHOULD) be about you. Your growth. Your creativity. The things you’ve worked for and the things you’re still tending.

At Bloom and Glow, we love a celebration rooted in intention, beauty, and self-honoring. So whether you're full-on witchy or just witch-curious, we have created a list of a few beautiful ways to mark the season - some of them won’t cost you a thing!

Budget Friendly Ways to Celebrate Lammas

1. Bake Something with Love
Lammas is literally the loaf-mass, a bread-based festival. Bake a simple loaf, cornbread, muffins, whatever feels good. Infuse it with gratitude. Say thank you to yourself for how far you've come this year. Share it with a friend or offer a slice to the earth.

2. Have a Harvest Reflection Ritual

Light a candle, grab a journal, and reflect:

 - What have I created or nurtured this year?

 - What do I need to celebrate or release?

 - Where is abundance already present in my life?
This doesn’t need to be fancy, but it should be thoughtful. Five minutes of honest reflection under a late summer sky can be so powerful!

3. Decorate an Altar or Sacred Space
Use what you already have in your home:  fresh herbs, flowers, stones, fruit, candles. Arrange them with intention. Let your space become a mirror of your gratitude and transformation.

Ways to Celebrate with a little extra special Bloom and Glow Magic

1. Wear a Lammas-Aligned Gemstone
This season carries golden, grounding energy. Gemstones that resonate with Lammas include:

 - Carnelian for creative fire and courage

 - Citrine for abundance and optimism

 - Moonstone for emotional balance and seasonal transitions

You’ll find some of these woven into pieces in the Bloom and Glow collection. Choose what calls to you and let it be your talisman for the turn of the season.

2. Add a Touch of Silver to Your Rituals
Sterling silver is ruled by the moon, but at Lammas, it reflects the balance between sun and shadow. Try wearing a new chain style that makes you feel strong, grounded, or radiant. Bonus points for layering gold-plated or rose-gold-plated pieces to capture the warmth of the season.

Not sure which chain suits your harvest vibe? We just dropped a blog post breaking them all down, from snake to rope to paperclip, so you can meet your perfect match!

Final Thought

Lammas reminds us to pause. To gather. To honor what’s blooming and to prepare for what’s fading. Whether you’re baking, journaling, stacking chains, or simply breathing a little slower, this season invites you to be here.

Sis, you’ve worked hard. Babe, you’ve grown. That deserves to be seen and celebrated!

Tell us how you’re celebrating Lammas this year, tag @thebloomandglow or send us a message! We love hearing about your rituals, altars, and everyday magic.
