Celebrating Balance, Gratitude, and the Second Harvest

The wheel of the year keeps turning, and with it comes one of the most beautiful and grounding celebrations: Mabon, the autumn equinox. Mabon is on September 22, this 2025, and occurs around September 21- 23 each year. A special time when day and night sit in perfect balance as a reminder that life is always moving between light and dark, growth and rest, beginnings and endings.

For our ancestors, Mabon was the Second Harvest, a time to gather crops, share abundance, and prepare for the coming winter. For us today, it’s a chance to pause, take stock of all that’s grown in our lives this year, and give thanks for the gifts (big and small) we’ve harvested.

The Spirit of Mabon

Mabon invites us into themes of:

 - Balance: honoring the equal hours of light and dark.
 - Gratitude: giving thanks for what has been gathered.
 - Release: letting go of what no longer serves as we move toward the darker half of the year.
 - Preparation: tending to what we need to sustain us, physically, emotionally, spiritually.

This is the season of apples, pumpkins, pomegranates, and grains; foods that embody both nourishment and symbolism. A scrumptious feast shared with loved ones, a walk in the crisp autumn air, or even a quiet moment journaling can all be ways to honor Mabon.

Modern Ways to Celebrate

Here are a few simple rituals you can weave into your own equinox celebration:

Gratitude Altar: Place autumn leaves, fruits, or crystals on a table or shelf. Light a candle and name what you’re thankful for.

Equal Light and Dark: Spend equal time reflecting on your growth and your challenges, both teach us balance.

Harvest Feast: Cook a meal with seasonal ingredients and share it with friends or family.

Jewelry as Talisman: Wear a piece that reminds you of balance. Stones like smoky quartz, peridot, or lapis lazuli can anchor the themes of transformation, growth, and truth.

Why Bloom and Glow Honors Mabon

At Bloom and Glow, we believe every milestone and every season of life deserves to be celebrated. Mabon, with its focus on gratitude and balance, mirrors our mission: to honor not just the big traditional markers, but the personal, sometimes quiet, victories and transitions.

Just as the earth is generous in her harvest, this is a time to be generous with yourself: generous in gratitude, in celebration, and in claiming the abundance you deserve.

The Glow-Up Lesson

Mabon reminds us that balance is fleeting but gratitude is a choice we can carry into every season. Celebrate what you’ve gathered, release what you no longer need, and step into the darker half of the year with trust.

After all, every season has its glow!
