The Origin Story of Bloom and Glow
Share
From Heartbreak to Radiance
As 2023 came to a close, my friend Hallie, one of Bloom and Glow’s creative godmothers, started thinking about her word for 2024.
Not a resolution. Not a list of "shoulds."
Just one word to embody. To live into. To let guide her through whatever came next.
She picked the word “Bloom.”
And then she asked me, “Ashly, what’s your word?”
I hadn’t even thought about it.
Because the truth is, I wasn’t feeling very word-of-the-year inspired.
I was heartbroken, burned out, and spiritually wiped.
At the time, I was (unknowingly) at the very beginning of what would become an epic, life-altering road trip. The kind of trip you take when you don’t know what else to do except get in the car and go.
I was standing in a store somewhere near Joyful Journey Hot Springs in Southern Colorado, tired, hollow, and deeply in need of something.
I grabbed a book off the shelf. I didn’t know then how much I needed that exact book:
Glow in the F*cking Dark by Tara Schuster.
It cracked something open in me.
Early in the book, Tara writes:
“These stars don't just glimmer, they glow; they cast off an almost protective aura of light. My skin breaks into chills and I wonder aloud, 'How do you do that? Can I do that?' … [C]an I create my own light, a light I can take anywhere, a light that sustains me even when things get profoundly dark?”
And suddenly, I had my word.
Glow.
I spent the weekend soaking in hot springs, wrapped in mountain silence and snow, thinking about that word. What would it mean to not just get through the darkness, but to radiate in it? What would it look like to glow from within, even when the outside world is a mess?
Bloom. Glow. Repeat.
At the time, I had already launched Blue Mountain Jewelry, a personal creative outlet and passion project that had kept me grounded through massive life changes. But I didn’t know there was something else trying to be born. Something that wasn’t just about jewelry… it was about becoming.
When Hallie and I were working on branding for the Blue Mountain Jewelry, trying to figure out how to make it stand out, Hallie (being the creative genius she is)looked at me and said:
“Ash… I don’t know how you’re going to take this but it’s not Blue Mountain Jewelry. Bloom and Glow. That’s the name. That’s you.”
And she was right.
Bloom and Glow isn’t just a jewelry brand.
It’s my love letter to every woman choosing herself, even when it’s messy.
It’s the reminder that your healing, your rage, your softness, your strength, it all belongs.
It’s proof that something beautiful can grow out of heartbreak.
From One Word to a Whole Movement
Bloom and Glow was born from a tired soul, a broken heart, and a fierce belief that we get to mark our own milestones.
Not just weddings. Not just babies.
But life changes! Career redirections. Saturn returns. Choosing yourself. Sobriety anniversaries.
Starting over. Starting fresh. Starting to love yourself, even just a little.
It’s about celebrating your glow-up, even if no one else throws you a party for it.
“It’s been a labor of love. I’ve learned so much, and I couldn’t be prouder of what Hallie and I created. Bloom and Glow is really me, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.
I hope it resonates with other women and they join me in self-celebration and living for ourselves.”
